Beyond the Break: Conversations for Family Resilience and Restoration will foster healing within families navigating the journey of accepting and affirming their LGBTQ loved ones.
Through The School of Opulence’s Opulence for Everyone Mental Health Program, this project creates compassionate spaces where families can come together to talk honestly, listen deeply, and move toward restoration. Many families struggle to reconcile love with fear, culture, or faith when a family member comes out as LGBTQ. When acceptance is withheld, it can create deep wounds that often lead to depression, substance use, and risky behaviors as individuals seek belonging elsewhere. The lack of affirmation doesn’t just silence—it devalues. By contrast, family affirmation strengthens resilience, reduces mental health crises, and improves long-term wellbeing. This project will bring people together—LGBTQ family members and relatives who struggle with acceptance—to learn from one another in a spirit of empathy, honesty, and freedom. Each dialogue reminds participants that love and truth work together in the process of healing. Restoring families, in turn, restores the wider community.
